Possibilities…

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Hi Everyone, and Happy almost Friday!

We received new computers at work this week, and I had the opportunity to re-create my signature page for sending e-mail.

I always add a quote after my signature because it makes a statement about who I am, and what is important to me.  This week I got a chance to find a new one that has deep meaning for me.  I decided to search for a quote on possibilities because I love that word!

To me possibilities imply that the sky is the limit, opportunities abound, and the land is plentiful, that there are many ways to do something, that there is expansiveness, and opportunities to grow, learn, and experience new things, and it makes me feel that we can do anything.

I like to use the word possibilities in coaching and find it very effective in helping people realize they have choices.  Too often we get “stuck” in a rut, convinced there is no hope, that things will never change, that we will never loose those extra pounds, or find that soul-mate, etc, etc.

So, we resign ourselves to settling for the status quo, and feeling miserable about it, or worse yet, we don’t realize we could have more, and that life could be fulfilling.  Coaching helps people see the possibilities.  There are opportunities for creating the life you desire… everywhere, you need only to start looking inward and question what you’ve been saying to yourself.  Thinking in terms of possibilities gives us hope, and something to look forward to.

Assignment:
Think about an area in your life where you feel STUCK and answer the following questions:
♥        Describe what your life would be like if you weren’t stuck.  What would be different?
♥        List 3 (possible) DIFFERENT ways to see your situation
♥        List 3 different actions you could take to get yourself un-stuck
♥        What will you do next?

By the way, here’s my new quote.

The potential of the average person is like a huge ocean unsailed, a new continent unexplored, a world of possibilities waiting to be released and channeled toward some great good.”  Brian Tracy

Peace, Love, & Blessings to you always,
Patricia

What are you appreciating today?

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Taking time to interrupt our busy lives and look around now and then is important.  It gives us permission to step off our beaten path and see what else is out there, to take a break from the routine, and get a breath of fresh air.  To stop watching the news and TV shows and focus on something completely different from what we see and do each day.

Allowing ourselves space and time to notice and appreciate what we see is energizing.  It can give us new perspectives; fill us with hope, and perhaps a sense of wonder about our world, and it can be life transforming, especially if we do it on a regular basis.

Do you see roses, rainbows, or icicles when you look around?  If not, what things do you notice at home, at work, outside, in the store, in the sky? Are you willing to allow yourself to stop, notice, and appreciate your loving pet, warm, and cozy home, trustworthy car, or loving friend?

If you are only able to see what needs to be done or what’s wrong as you gaze at your environment, stop yourself, let go of that, and only focus on appreciations.

♥        Say to yourself, I appreciate____ and list at least three things everywhere  you look.
♥        Commit to doing this at least three days in a row, and see what happens.

Love & Blessings,
Patricia

If you could have any wish. . .

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

Hi everyone!

When we have a clear vision of what we want, we can then move towards actualizing and creating it in our lives. But first we must begin with a wish or desire.

Just for fun, if you were magically granted absolute success in achieving one wish in 2007,

What would you wish for in your life this year?

Peace & Blessings,

Patricia

Supporting Ourselves in Difficult Times

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

On our recent trip to Kona, Hawaii, we talked to a waitress about an earth quake they experienced a few weeks before we arrived. It was a level 6.7 quake and very scary for the townspeople. If you’ve been to Kona, you know that there is a bulkhead on one side of the street and the businesses are on the other side.  If there were a Tsunami, the whole town would be lost.  The waitress talked about her fear before the quake.  She said she could tell something was wrong.  “It just felt weird”, she said.  She got up to use the toilet and noticed the water level was low when suddenly she felt the house start shaking. She quickly sat on the floor against a wall hoping she would escape the danger.  The house shook so violently that she was thrown to the other room.

They continued to have several aftershocks in the weeks that followed.  It was almost eerie, and a sense of vulnerability was in the air, in the town of Kona.

While there, we heard about the storm in our hometown in the Pacific Northwest, and we were in shock.  We heard about the power outage, fallen trees, and extreme fear felt by our friends and family.

In both incidents, I was reminded of how truly vulnerable we are on this earth, and how little control we have over our environment. At any moment, we could experience a completely devastating earthquake that could end our lives.  We could suffer an incurable disease or injury, or be the victims of a terrorist act.  The truth is there are many areas in our lives we cannot control.

Since it would be equally devastating to live a life of fear and anxiety, what can we do?  How can we live our lives, knowing this? How can we thrive?  What can we really control?

We have control over how we respond and how we care for ourselves.  We also have control over what we say to ourselves.  In other words, when you suffer unforeseen situations, what do you do to care for yourself?  What’s your inner dialog?  How do you support yourself while living in an environment that is not always safe, secure, and predictable?   To apply this to our daily living, what are three things you could do to support yourself every day?  When will you begin?

Peace and Blessings,

Patricia

A friend just sent this to me, and I thought it was great, so I’m passing it on to you.

My Wish for You in 2007

May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts. May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet for  $100 bills. May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips! May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires and may happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy. May the problems you had forget your home address! In simple words …………
May 2007 be the best year of your life!!!

Peace and Blessings,

Patricia
