Part 1 – Success Tips to Set & Achieve Your Goals in 2011

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

New Year’s Resolutions and Goals are at the forefront for us during this time of year.  With so many different ways to think about and construct goals, you may find this approach helpful.

This is the first in a series of posts to support you in successfully setting and achieving your goals in 2011.  Return to this blog to read the next tips.

1. Know what you want not what you think you want, or what you think others think you should want, or not what you think you should want.

2. Think about your goal options: spend quiet undisturbed time with eyes closed thinking about options for a goal.  If you had a goal this year, what would it be? What would truly support you as a goal this year? Questions such as, “What do I really want for myself this year” will help to prepare you for what follows. You’ll probably have lots of goal/options.  Allow them to surface and spend time thinking about each one.

3. Screen the goal options: spend time with each option and notice what thoughts come to mind as you think about each goal/option.  What would your life look like having achieved that goal? How would your life be different if you achieved that goal?  Then notice how you would feel achieving this goal.  What would you be telling yourself as you achieve that goal?  What do you want to experience?

Example-Goal: To lose weight- 20 lbs.  My life would be filled with more opportunities.  I would take more risks. I would feel less self-conscious.  I’d be more physically active and look better in my clothes and feel confident.  I would feel very good about myself and I’d say, YAY, I did it!  That would feel great.

Raw Food Smoothies for Health

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

I am really enjoying my new Blendtech Blender and I can feel that my body loves the addition of more raw foods.  Increasing my raw food intake has helped my digestive system function more efficiently and I’ve felt more energized.  An added benefit has been comments about how good my skin looks J.

If you struggle with weight control, eating more raw foods will help you because the high fiber and water content in raw foods will help you to feel full and not overeat.  Overall raw foods are lower in calories and richer in nutritional content, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidants.  This will improve your health and wellbeing.  Our bodies crave this good nutrition and respond with increased mental focus, energy and glowing skin.

Research studies on raw food diets report positive results on the immune system, allergies, hypertension, fibromyalgia, and rheumatoid arthritis as well as increased weight loss.

So how do you get started? Go slow, research, become informed and plan accordingly.  Search the Internet and educate yourself.  Here’s a comprehensive website and there are many more to view. http://www.wikihow.com/Go-on-a-Raw-Food-Diet

An easy and enjoyable way to start is to purchase a good blender that is equipped to break the cell walls in the food to release the nutrients in the most beneficial way.  There are two excellent blenders that can do this, Blendtec and Vitamix.  I chose Blendtec because it is more compact, fits under my counter and because if the 3-horsepower engine.  You can easily research them and choose one that meets your needs.  Here’s a link to a demonstration of both blenders. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO7bkHxiQEM

Each morning I have a smoothie that includes fruits and vegetables.  For example, this morning my smoothie included, (all raw and organic) beets, celery, broccoli, carrots, spinach, basil, rosemary, ginger, cilantro, mint, banana, apple, pear, orange, pineapple, raspberry blueberry, protein powder, water and unsweetened cranberry juice.  It was delicious! I know this is a lot of ingredients, and you don’t have to use this many.  I’ve found that I love the variety and it feels so good knowing I’m eating healthy.  Here are some recipe sites. http://renegadehealth.com/blog/2007/09/10/awesome-raw-smoothie-recipes-from-the-raw-food-world-summit/ and http://www.thebestofrawfood.com/green-smoothie-recipe-2.html

Adding a raw food smoothie to your daily meals may just provide you with the support you need to improve your overall wellbeing.  Enjoy and post your recipes!

Neuro-Linguistic Programming Cures Headaches

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

One day I woke up with a terrible headache.  At the time I was attending a workshop on Neuro-Linguistic Programming(NLP), and so I brought the headache to class. I knew this pain very well because I had been plagued with headaches my whole life. I wouldn’t classify them as migraines although on rare occasions I have vomited because the pain was intense.  I had spent lots of money for this training and I was upset at not being able to fully participate because of the pain.

Lucky for me I got to work on my headache with a group of my colleagues in class that day.  They used Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques which instantly removed the pain.

They asked me about the headache, watched my behavior, listened and learned as I described it.  You see we experience information from our world through our senses.  All events (positive and negative) are stored in our memories and tied to our senses.  For example when we hear a certain song we may feel emotions from a former significant event.  Or a certain smell or taste can trigger intense positive or negative feelings and memories from past experience.

My colleagues identified that my headache represented itself as a picture, a smell and a feeling from a memory.  Through more questioning, we discovered that the headache was tied to the smell of a perfume and a negative experience I had as a child.  Then, using this information, they helped me change that picture.  I moved it to a different location, changed the color, sound, smell and feeling of that picture.  Then I shrank it down into a tiny picture and watched it evaporate.

It was a miracle, and I was a true believer! It was amazing to know that I could instantly transform and eliminate my headache through these seemingly simple techniques.  Even though these techniques are very effective, it is often even more powerful to return to the event (using hypnotherapy) triggered by the headache in order to transform and heal it.

Since that time when my headache was cured with Neuro-Linguistic Programming, I have experimented using various techniques with myself and my clients and produced very satisfying results.

Did you know?

“Hypnosis as an alternative to sedation is making a comeback in the operating room… Hypnotized patients recover more quickly, with less pain and fewer side effects.  Time, “Mind Over Medicine,” March 27, 2006

Wishing you health in all areas of your life, Patricia

Media, Hypnosis & Self Esteem

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Last night in my Hypno~Coaching for Weight Release class we talked about the trance state we enter in hypnosis and the fact that we are naturally in and out of P1000733trance all day long.  When we shower, drive to work, attend a training class, work on the computer, watch TV and so many other activities we are in a trance.  That’s how our brain works.  If you’ve noticed, it’s often during these “trances” that we solve problems, get great ideas and grain greater understanding through replaying events.  In hypnosis we use this trance state, because our minds are very receptive. Just think what we could accomplish if our mind wasn’t infused with limiting beliefs about our abilities…

Media and advertising companies know how our brains work too.  That’s why we look at a thin, beautiful or handsome model in a magazine or TV and feel bad about ourselves.  We are being hypnotized into believing we are not good enough if we don’t look like that.  Or we find ourselves automatically buying unhealthy fast foods or searching for the “right medication” to cure our ailments.  While we are in a trance watching TV we are being told what’s right, wrong and the way to live and be in the world.

Isn’t it time to take our lives back? Turn the commercials off, stop buying the magazines that make you feel bad, or realize it for what it is.  That perhaps it is more about them making big bucks than it is your well-being.

Set your own standard.  Learn more about yourself.  What is right for you?  What code do you want to live by?  And after all, when it comes right down to it, what’s most important is how we feel about ourselves isn’t it? Creating, cultivating and nurturing healthy and positive feelings about ourselves builds a strong foundation to weather the daily storms attacking our self-worth.

Lose Weight Through Guided Meditations

Monday, September 6th, 2010

WomanArmsRaisediStock_000009974965Small[1]How would you like a quick, easy and efficient way to lose excess weight? Guided meditation or light hypnotic trance is a very powerful tool to help you create the changes you want to make in your life, more quickly and easily than you ever thought possible. Guided meditation-hypnosis is used very effectively for weight loss as well as for other challenging and destructive beliefs and behaviors.

While in a trance, your mind is open and receptive to suggestions that will support you in changing your behavior.  For example after receiving positive suggestions about healthy eating and exercise you may find yourself looking forward to these new habits and enjoying them very much while losing excess weight in the process.

Sounds great you may be thinking, but does it really work? There are well documented studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of using hypnosis for weight loss.

One such study was conducted by David N. Bolocofsky; Dwayne Spinler; and Linda Coulthard-Morris in 1985 titled, “Effectiveness of hypnosis as an adjunct to behavioral weight management.” The findings were published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, 41 (1), 35-41.

This was a 9-week study conducted on two groups of around 54 people.  The first group was treated with changes in their diet and exercise habits only.  The second group received the same treatment while also receiving hypnosis for reinforcement. After the 9 week trial both groups lost weight while in the program.  However, after the 8 month and 2 year follow up the first group did not lose any more weight and most of the participants gained back the weight they had lost.

The second group however, continued to lose weight during both follow ups, and most of the people in this group met their long term weight loss goals. Not only that, they continued to practice the new diet and exercise habits they learned in the study.

Findings from other studies like this (including hypnosis in weight loss efforts) showed the average short-term weight loss for those not using hypnosis was 6 pounds, while those who were also treated with hypnosis lost on average 11.83 pounds.  Over the long-term the average weight loss without hypnosis was 6 pounds, however with hypnosis the average weight loss increased to 14.88 pounds

It is clear from these and other well documented studies that over time, those using hypnosis with other weight loss efforts are able to successfully achieve their weight loss goals and change their diet and exercise habits in the process.

What would your life be like if this part of your life was easy?

If you are ready to find out and begin your journey, join us for two sessions,

Healing Evolution Through Qigong

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

P1000118When asked what the biggest problem in the world today is, many of us would say it’s our environment.  Jeff Primack owner-CEO of Supreme Science Qigong Foundation http://qigong.com/ says our biggest problem today is in our separation in consciousness.  He says (paraphrased) even if we resolved all the earth’s problems, we’d still fight over land.  However, when the reality of all humanity is connected, world peace will happen.

At Supreme Science Qigong Foundation, Jeff is more interested in the evolution of people than in food healing even though he teaches food healing by increasing the consumption of phytochemicals in his seminars.  Jeff believes that Qigong is the unifying agent that will connect us all so that “the ultimate all is one experience”.  He has been passionately spreading his philosophies about food, healing, spirituality and transforming world consciousness through his world wide Qigong seminars.

What is Qigong? At first glance Qigong is an exercise that professes to build the immune system and strengthen the body through a series of slow, controlled, and specific Tai Chi (originating from Qigong) moves performed in synchrony with deep breathing rhythms. It is a self-healing tool using a moving form of meditation.  When we look deeper, we discover that “Qigong is the father of traditional Chinese Medicine”, which is over 5000 years old. Kept secret and only practiced by the wealthy elite and martial artists, with the Cultural Revolution, Qigong is now available to all.

According to traditional Chinese theory Qi is the vital energy that gives us life. It is derived from the air we breathe, the food we eat and the environment in which we live.  Qigong is also used in healing others in body, mind and soul. And it can be used to help in healing our entire universe.

The gentle, deep breathing techniques are said to revitalize our tissues, organs, muscles bones relieving pain, eliminating stress and strengthening our ability to send out Qi for use in healing others and our planet.

Studies have shown Qigong to be a cure for many ailments from high blood pressure to cancer. In the Western world many of us have found Qigong to be the key in improving our overall health. The positive effects from incorporating a regular practice of Qigong include inner peace, a healthy energized body and a calm state of mind that supports us in managing the stresses and disease in life.

Practicing Qigong together with healthy eating and using herbs is touted as the secret to longevity.  It is said that many practitioners show “profound anti-aging effects, often looking decades younger than their actual age.”

As we practice the art of Qigong, we are moving energy in a meditative dance, bringing Qi to us, sending Qi to the earth to others and out into the universe.  There are specific moves involved such as Wuji Stepping, Push Hands Movement, Locomotion Movement and others that allow us to move while breathing in concert with our actions.

I attended the 4-day Qigong Healing Revolution in Tacoma in July-August 2010 and was moved deeply in this experience.  In addition to learning and practicing 3 levels of Qigong, we learned about healing through food, and the 9-Breath Healing energy method among many other topics.

At one point in the seminar the chairs were arranged in a long spiral around the room. Six hundred of us sat holding hands and used this healing 9-Breath method to send healing energy through prayer to those suffering in the world.  We prayed specifically for healing and forgiveness for the local city, the state, the country, the world, elected officials, the children, Africa, Israel and the Middle East, the soldiers, those responsible for the war, our prosperity, our neighbor’s prosperity, for those we need to forgive, for forgiveness of ourselves, and finally we sent prayers of gratitude to God.

There may be some truth to Jeff Primack’s beliefs about our separation from one another in consciousness. Personally I don’t know if this is an area that will ever be healed.  However, there was a definite connection to everyone when practicing the art of Qigong during the seminar. I felt very connected to others in the room and especially when we were praying.

At any rate, there are so many benefits in practicing Qigong that it may very well solve another big problem in the world today, the stress, anxiety and lack of positive, healthy inner connection with self.  Try it for yourself and notice how you feel. If it feels good continue the practice and reap the healthy benefits of quieting your mind and healing the evolution of your mind and body through Qigong.

Using Your Mind to Attract What You Want

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

HappyBusPeopleiStock_000008506568Medium[1]

‎”As we increasingly master our perceptions, beliefs, and thought/feeling patterns, we magnetically attract that which we most desire.”
~Luanne Oakes~

The mind is a powerful tool we can use to transform our lives.  With specific and purposeful use of the mind we can improve performance, relieve pain, speed healing, lose weight, stop smoking, achieve confidence, eliminate fears, stress and phobias, quit destructive habits and attract what we want in our lives.

There’s been a movement underfoot for awhile now, called the “Law of Attraction”.  It became popular with the 2006 movie, “The Secret” along with the promise to help you create anything you want in life.

What is it, and can I use it to attract what I want? According to Wikipedia, the law of attraction “refers to the idea that thoughts influence chance.” In other words the premise is that conscious and unconscious thoughts shape what happens in our life, not just motivation and action.

According to this theory we send out vibrations that represent our beliefs, thoughts and emotions.  The law of attraction matches those vibrations (whether positive or negative) and brings us more of the same.  So, based on this theory, to attract what you want you must become deliberate about what vibes you are sending out into the universe.

Many believe that to attract what you want, you merely have to send out the right vibrations and your desires will manifest.  Personally I don’t believe that sending out vibes alone will achieve my goals. However, I do know that our thoughts ultimately create the beliefs, feelings, actions and inactions in our lives. Our state of mind is the key in attracting what we want and achieving our goals.  When combined with sound action steps, we can substantially increase our odds at attract what we desire.

What we focus on affects our performance. We know that in sports like golf, baseball, football and others once we learn the skills to play; we become truly success when we gain mastery of our thoughts.  Thoughts that are filled with anxiety about missing the mark or imagining failure will most often lead to failure.

This is true in all endeavors.  When we imagine and see ourselves succeeding at whatever goal we set it affects our performance by preparing our mind for how it’s going to be and we expect success. In sports for example, there are many documented studies comparing mental practice and actual physical practice. In many cases mentally practicing and rehearsing the game was equal to or better than physical practice.

If we think we’ve failed even though there maybe evidence to the contrary that is our experience.  On the other hand, if we walk through life imaging success, even if others don’t completely agree, we walk through life feeling successful.  When we feel successful, we take more risks increasing our opportunities for even more success.  Not only that, it feels good to think successful and positive thoughts about our lives.  How do you want to feel?

There are many ways we can use these ideas to create the success we desire.  One way is by participating in a guided meditation/visualization during which you will actively and creatively visualize successfully achieving our goal. You will prepare you mind for what will be by mentally rehearsing what you want to attract. You can also do this alone by visualizing, in as much detail as possible, what you want to attract in your life.

Learning to use our powerful minds in visualizing what we want to attract while taking action in the direction of our goals will support us in achieving the success we desire. What do you want to attract in your life today?

Join us this Monday and participate in a guided meditation designed specifically to support you in attracting what you want in your life.  Experience the power of your mind.

Eliminate Self-Sabotage-Weight Loss

Believing in yourself is an endless destination.  Believing you have failed is the end of the journey.  Author unknown

silhouette friends. sunset waterRecently a client came in to my office in total despair.  She said she had participated in every diet that was ever created, hired personal trainers, joined local weight loss groups and nothing had worked for her.  She desperately wanted to lose weight permanently. Sure, she had lost lots of weight over the years, she said, but she gained it all back and then some.  She was sick and tired of feeling like a failure, and had little hope she could conquer this big problem in her life.  She’d heard that hypnotherapy worked and wanted to try it.

After learning specifically what she wanted to achieve we discussed her behavior, and how she sabotaged her efforts. I asked her what would make the biggest difference in her success with weight loss.  She said, “If I could control my eating that would be half the battle.”

She was able to pinpoint exactly what happens during the minute she chooses the self-sabotaging behavior. I used a very effective Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) process with her called the New Behavior Generator. Here’s how it works.

New Behavior Generator – think of a challenging situation you want to change, then create a picture of what you are doing that is not working – step inside it and dim down the color, take color out, take feelings, thoughts, sounds tastes and smells out so the picture is dull and has no energy, then take the corners of the picture and shrink it way down so that it is very tiny…

Next, create a picture of yourself doing exactly what you want to be doing in that situation and then step into it.  Notice what you are doing, how are you feeling, what you see, hear, tell yourself, taste and smell… now turn the dials up on that picture making it more intense, colorful, vibrant and alive…. See, hear and feel yourself in this picture looking out your own eyes… feeling very confident and knowing you are behaving exactly the way you want to in this challenging situation.

My client has had much success with this process.  Using it during challenging times has helped her eliminate self-sabotaging behavior. You too, can now have full confidence in reacting just like this any time you want in every challenging situation.

Limiting Beliefs

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

zen / spa stones with flowersLimiting beliefs hold us back.  They keep us from living authentic and empowered lives.  They keep us from joy, happiness, personal success and empowerment.  They keep us laying low and playing small when we know and want to do much better.

When working with any limiting belief, we help you get from your current state to your desired state.  First we help you identify your desired state?  What would you like to believe instead?  We ask, how would your life be different with this new belief, and other questions aimed at helping you draw out and give life to exactly what you want.  Similar to knowing where you want to go on vacation, if you have a clear destination or desired state, you’ll be able to get there.

For example, we help people afraid of pubic speaking to identify exactly how they want to to “be, feel, think, act, etc” while speaking,  Then we show them how to link the desired state with inner resources they already have.  Immediately they are able to transform this fear into confidence and perform the way they want to.  You can do this too!

Identify a situation that you don’t feel good about including the feelings you have and want to change. For example maybe you feel irritated with your boss, partner or colleague.  Next identify how you want to feel instead.  Maybe you want to feel compassionate, calm and tolerant.  Then, think back to a time when you felt these positive feelings.  Allow yourself to anchor, and fully feel these desired feelings while taking them into the current situation.  Believing you can and do have other options in the way you think, feel and navigate in the world can be very empowering.
