A Fresh Eye Perspective

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Kauai, Hawaii

My husband and I recently took a vacation to Kauai, Hawaii to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary.  We had a wonderful time even though it was just one week.  While there we snorkeled, hiked, shopped and took a fabulous helicopter ride.

Vacations provide a wonderful opportunity to “step away from” life as usual…

Since returning I’ve meditated on the following question:, “So Patricia, what’s going to change – what are you going to do differently in your life now that you’ve returned to it with “fresh eyes”?”

Fresh Eye Perspective

What can a fresh eye perspective do for us, and what’s the point?  We’ve all heard the statement about being too close to a situation to see it clearly.  Well, stepping out of and gazing at our lives helps us see what we are actually doing.

Taking an unbiased objective view provides us many pearls of wisdom.  We can see where we are supporting our selves, where we need help, what we are tolerating, how we are treating ourselves and what effect it’s having on our lives…

Gaining a fresh perspective is valuable and you don’t need to travel on an airplane or spend money to do it. Here’s an activity to help.

Activity

Find quiet time alone

Close your eyes and take several deep-relaxing breaths

Picture yourself as the main character on a movie screen as you are sitting in the audience watching…

Allow the movie to begin in 2009… and watch as month by month goes by…

What do you see?  What happens to the main character?  What is she/he doing, thinking, seeing, feeling and telling herself?

Allow yourself time to take it all in…

Then, knowing you can change the movie for this main character for 2010, think about how you will change it.  What will happen…. What do you want to happen…

Spend quality time here designing the script and casting characters…

Write it all down and check it periodically through out the year for any editing you may want to do.

I hope you found this helpful.  For more activities like this, and a “fresh perspective“ for your life sign up for my newsletter here.

Wishing you Many blessings this year and always, Patricia

With Gratitude – Happy New Year

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

2010

As the year comes to an end I want to express my deep gratitude to you for supporting me this past year through attending my classes, choosing to hire me, reading my blog/newsletter and being my friend and colleague.  You have enriched my life immensely.  Thank you.

With the ending of 2009, and the beginning of 2010, each of us has a unique opportunity to start over again with a clean slate, keeping what worked, discarding what didn’t serve us, and creating more of what we want in the year to come.

It all begins with a vision or a dream of how we want our lives’ to unfold…

Wish your 2010 dreams to be the very best for you yet.  Cheers for a year filled with love, laughter, health and prosperity for you.

May this little video inspire your dreams…       http://www.thedreamsmovie.com/

Warmest wishes,

Patricia

Happy Heart Day!

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

This prayer is in a couples daily devotional book my husband and I are reading.  It is titled Quiet Times For Couples by H.Norman Wright and it is filled with many wonderful insights.  One of them is this prayer for couples.  It is meant to share.  Many blessings to you this special heartfelt day.

(James Dillet Freeman)

May your marriage bring you all the exquisite excitements a marriage should bring,
and may life grant you also patience, tolerance, and understanding.

May you always need one another -
not so much to fill your emptiness as to help you to know your fullness.
A mountain needs a valley to be complete;
the valley does not make the mountain less, but more;
and the valley is more a valley because it has a mountain towering over it.
So let it be with you and you.

May you need one another, but not out of weakness.
May you want one another, but not out of lack.
May you entice one another, but not compel one another.
May you embrace one another, but not out encircle one another.
May you succeed in all important ways with one another, and not fail in the little graces.
May you look for things to praise, often say, “I love you!” and take no notice of small faults.

If you have quarrels that push you apart,
may both of you hope to have good sense enough to take the first step back.

May you enter into the mystery which is the awareness of one another’s presence -
no more physical than spiritual, warm and near when you are side by side,
and warm and near when you are in separate rooms or even distant cities.
May you have happiness, and may you find it making one another happy.
May you have love, and may you find it loving one another!

Happy Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

To all the Mothers in the world, Happy Mother’s Day.

May you know you are deeply loved and appreciated not only today, but everyday. The work you do today shapes the future of humankind. This is not only an awesome responsibility, it is very difficult one. May those around you recognize this and support you in many ways.

Finally, may you be strengthened in body, mind and spirit for this most important role, and may you dwell in joy, peace, love and contentment always.

Blessings to you, Patricia

What’s Your Legacy?

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

What is a Legacy?  According to the Merriam Webster definition, it is a gift by will especially of money or other personal property or something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past.

I watched two very good shows last week, and the similarities between them were interesting.  They were both heartbreaking stories that have stayed with me for a while. Even though these stories were very sad, watching them made me start thinking about legacies, and how we can influence today, what people say and think of us tomorrow.

Both shows portrayed the lives of two legendary people in history, Marie Antoinette and Buddy Holly.  I watched the Marie Antoinette video with Kirsten Dunst, and enjoyed it very much.  Later in the week, I attended the 5TH Avenue Theater in Seattle’s production of the Buddy Holly story.

These two heroic people not only suffered tragic and early deaths, they each left behind a unique and memorable legacy.

Marie Antoinette used fashion to make a powerful statement that shaped the public opinion of her.  Her impact on the fashion world influences designs even today, more than 200 years later. She was said to be the Queen of Fashion.

Her strength and courage in the dungeon, prior to her beheading were admired, as was her beauty.  There is no doubt, Marie Antoinette who married at barely 15 years of age, became queen at 18, and a mother at 23 and victim of the guillotine at 38, left behind a legacy.

When Buddy Holly died at age 22, in that legendary plane crash in February 1959, he became a legend.  He left behind an incredible music legacy.

What he contributed to music had an enormous impact on the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Elvis Costello and Jimi Hendrix to name a few.  He mingled country, rock and other pop influences creatively into his music and inspired a legion of followers.  His versatility was both rare and admired, and continues to impact music today.

A legacy is something we leave behind.  It is what others remember about us, what we are known for, much like our reputation.  For example if you can be counted on to liven up the party, that is what people remember about you.  If you are someone others count on, to do what you say you will do, that may be how people remember you, or your legacy.  If you are quick to roll up your sleeves and help when a need arises, people will remember that about you, and so on.

If you knew you could influence your legacy, would you want to? Most of us want others to think well of us.  We want to feel well regarded, competent and know that people respect us and will treat us fairly.

You can influence your legacy starting today.  It is possible.  To begin, answer these questions.

o         What do you want to be known for?
o         What do you want people to say about you?
o         What kind of legacy do you want to leave?
o         What will you do differently as a result?

Once you have answered these questions, begin a list of things you could do to create this new legacy.

Remember, what you do today influences tomorrow’s legacy.
Blessings,
Patricia

Four questions for you…

Monday, February 19th, 2007

Hi everyone!

Sorry about the errors in my last post.  The blog was spazzing out when I tried to correct them.  I’m hoping my web designer extraordinaire, Adriana Cal will give me some tips on how to fix this.

Stay tuned though because I have new ideas for another category on this blog that will be very interesting…

In the meantime, here are four questions for you to write about:

  1. What are you tolerating or putting up with in your life these days? (List)
  2. What do you want more of in your life? (List)
  3. What is one change you could make now that will increase your joy?
  4. When will you make this change?

In joy, and creating more of what you want,

Patricia

Dreams Really Can Come True…

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

So what are you waiting for? We all have hopes and dreams, right? Why is it that so many times, we put off pursuing them, and never experience our dreams at all?

We wait until that mythical perfect time to launch the career of our dreams, to take that much-needed vacation, to join a class to meet new people, or to exercise and practice self-care.  Sometimes we even wait until we are calmer to stop self-destructive habits like smoking, or over eating.

Sadly, for many, that perfect time never arrives. We live our whole lives in front of the TV, watching others do what we wish we had the guts to do.  We see happy people living their dreams, taking risks and living to their full potential, and we wish for some small piece of that success in our lives.

Even though we may feel we have just as much talent, drive, intelligence, and wit, we don’t even try to pursue our own success.  Why is that? Is it fear of failure, rejection, pain, and/or disappointment that holds us back?

If this is true for you, are you willing to try something new?  Ok, I’m not hearing a NO, so here goes.

First, acknowledge your feelings, they served you well.  Feeling the fear of failure, rejection, pain, and disappointment has kept you from venturing out and getting hurt.  You might say your fear kept you safe.

Next ask yourself what dream is it I really want, that I’ve been putting off because of my fears?  Pick one thing.  Now, answer these questions.

  1. How would my life be different if this dream came true? Make a list
  2. What would it take from me to fulfill this dream? Make a list.
  3. What would it be like to live my whole life never pursuing this dream?
  4. What three steps will I take starting tomorrow to make my dream come true?

Instead of watching life from a TV screen, I challenge you to create your own movie, one in which you are the STAR, and your dreams really do come true. Love, Light, Peace, Success, and Big Dreams to you!  Patricia

If you could have any wish. . .

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

Hi everyone!

When we have a clear vision of what we want, we can then move towards actualizing and creating it in our lives. But first we must begin with a wish or desire.

Just for fun, if you were magically granted absolute success in achieving one wish in 2007,

What would you wish for in your life this year?

Peace & Blessings,

Patricia

This is good…

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

A friend just sent this to me, and I thought it was great, so I’m passing it on to you.

My Wish for You in 2007

May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts. May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet for  $100 bills. May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips! May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires and may happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy. May the problems you had forget your home address! In simple words …………
May 2007 be the best year of your life!!!

Peace and Blessings,

Patricia
